Resident doctors of AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital, who boycotted focus with Friday in protest against attacks on the colleagues from Kolkata, have given a 48-hour ultimatum to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to match the demands of the state’s agitating doctors, failing which they said they would go on indefinite strike. We expect our colleagues throughout the state will join us in this hour of need,” the announcement said. They voiced their gratitude Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan for his instantaneous and pro active measures to resolve the impasse. “We sincerely hope that he will tackle this matter of utmost importance with the urgency that it merits,” he said. The doctors, however, will continue to wear helmets and bandages at work as a indication of protest. The 48-hour ultimatum by AIIMS doctors comes days after Mamata Banerjee gave a four-hour ultimatum to the striking health practitioners in her nation to take their strike or vacate hostels.

The IMA has also decided to keep their protest Saturday and Sunday condemning the continuing distress of these resident doctors and repeated occurrence of harassment, it also said.
